This homemade Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing is going to be your new go-to salad dressing! It’s a super tasty, yet simple combination of seasonings in a creamy greek yogurt base. Simply, mix together greek yogurt, almond milk, apple cider vinegar, dried dill weed, garlic powder, sea salt and a touch of sugar. If you want a thinner dressing use a little bit more milk. For greek yogurt ranch dip, reduce the milk. It’s fabulous either way!
Try it drizzled over any favorite salad or bowl recipe, or use it as a dip with chicken tenders and oven roasted red potatoes. You’ll never want store-bought ranch again, especially when making it at home is so easy. Plus, this recipe is made without any additives and only includes ingredients you can pronounce. It’ll level up any old salad recipe, and it goes with everything from buffalo wings to pizza. The consistency is perfectly thick and creamy, and the flavor is amazing!
This is very delicious! I quadruple the ingredients to keep in the spice cabinet. I also use it for vinaigrette.

Thank you for this terrific recipe!
Ingredients needed
This made-from-scratch greek yogurt ranch dressing recipe is perfectly thick, creamy and even has a little boost of protein! You’ll love it for dipping, dressing and tossing! Here’s everything you’ll need to make it:
For ingredient measurements and a printable recipe, scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom.
- Greek yogurt: The rich, creamy base that is a lower fat alternative to buttermilk, mayonnaise or sour cream.
- Milk: To thin the dressing out for the right consistency. I like to use unsweetened almond milk because that’s what I keep on-hand, but any milk works.
- Apple cider vinegar: A little acidity is necessary to give any salad dressing a nice balance of flavors! Fresh lemon juice would work in this, too.
- Seasonings: Just a simple mix of dill weed, garlic powder and sea salt is all that’s needed for that classic ranch flavor. This recipe calls for only dried herbs, see the ‘helpful tips’ section below for ways to use fresh herbs.
- Sugar: A small amount of granulated sugar adds the perfect amount of sweetness. You can omit or sub with an equal amount of honey, if you’d like.
How to make this recipe
This delicious dressing is made in two simple steps right in a mixing bowl or mason jar. No food processor or blender needed! Here’s how it comes together:
- Combine ingredients: Add greek yogurt, almond milk, apple cider vinegar, dill weed, garlic powder, sugar and salt to a medium bowl, large glass measuring cup with a spout or a mason jar.
- Mix: Whisk all ingredients until fully combined and smooth. If using a mason jar, simply put the lid on and shake the jar until well combined.
Helpful tips
- Full-fat greek yogurt: For richer dressing, use full-fat greek yogurt. Also, for a little less tang, substitute 2 tbsp (or more) of the yogurt for mayo.
- Vegan friendly: For a vegan, dairy-free version, replace the greek yogurt with a plain, unsweetened, plant-based yogurt.
- Fresh garlic: To make this with fresh garlic, substitute the 1/4 tsp garlic powder with 1 small minced garlic clove.
- Fresh dill: Instead of using dried dill, try using fresh herbs. A four-inch sprig of fresh dill (or just less than 1/2 tbsp) is equal to 1/4 tsp dried dill. For reference, one tablespoon chopped fresh dill is equal to one teaspoon dried dill.
Frequently asked questions
We definitely think so! It is creamy and rich with a delicious thick consistency and that classic ranch flavor. If you taste it, and you think it is a bit too tangy, simply add about 1-2 tablespoons of mayonnaise.
Healthy greek yogurt ranch salad dressing is low in calories and fat, coming in at only 62 calories per serving (2 tbsp) and only 5 grams of fat. To lower this further, you can use light greek yogurt.
If you want to substitute regular ranch dressing with something a bit healthier but just as tasty, give this greek yogurt ranch a try! Whether you’re serving it over a salad or using it as a dip with French fries, chicken tenders or pizza, it’s bound to be a major hit!
Variations
This is a great base recipe that you can easily customize for different flavors. Here are some options:
- Chipotle ranch: For a smoky, spicy flavor, mix 1 to 2 tsp of adobo sauce into the ranch.
- Avocado ranch: Blend 1/2 an avocado in with the ingredients and add about 1/2 tsp lime juice.
- Bacon ranch: Stir in about 1 to 1 1/2 tbs of chopped cooked bacon before chilling.
- Onion powder: Many ranch dressings include diced onions or onion powder, if you’d like that flavor, mix in about 1/4 teaspoon onion powder.
- Other mix-ins: Feel free to get creative and add in some fresh chives, fresh parsley or dried parsley. If you’re adding anything extra, start with a small amount like 1/4 tsp, taste and then add more as desired.
Ways to use
Don’t just limit this dressing to salads, there are endless options for ways to use it! Here are some ways we love to enjoy it:
- Dip: Use as a dip for freshly-cut veggies, sweet potato fries and/or crackers. Pizza crust too!
- Sauce: Drizzle over roasted sheet pan vegetables.
- Dressing: Toss with fresh green salads made of romaine, spinach, kale, or even pasta salads.
- Condiment: Add to sandwiches, wraps and/or burgers.
Storage and make ahead recommendations
- Make ahead: We suggest preparing this dressing the day before, so it has time to chill in the fridge. The flavors will blend and intensify becoming even tastier, and not to worry, it will still taste fresh.
- Storing: Homemade ranch dressing will stay good in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Give it a good stir (or a shake) before using it.

What happened to the original recipe? This recipe doesn’t match the spices shown in the photo…I’ve been making this for years and it’s my absolute favorite, but it seems like the recipe has changed?
The original recipe is as follows:
For the seasoning mix:
2 tablespoons dried minced onion
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 tablespoon dried basil
2 teaspoons dill weed
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
For the dressing:
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup milk (any type)
2 tablespoons mayo
2 tablespoons seasoning mix from above
Mix seasonings or shake in a jar. The seasoning mix makes 3 dressing mixes. 3 tablespoons of the seasoning mix equals 1 packet of ranch dressing mix from the store. To make the dressing, simply combine the 2 tablespoons of the seasoning mix as listed in the ingredients for the dressing with the other dressing ingredients. (for a thicker dressing, start with just 1/4 cup of milk and then add more as needed 1 tbsp at a time) (the mayo is optional but adds great flavor)

LOVE this healthy Ranch!! Creamy, flavorful, everything I love about Ranch but have never found even in healthy store-bought options (which are always too tangy for my taste). I think it’s the almond milk that mellows the tang and gives this dressing its smooth creamy taste. This is a keeper!
This dressing is amazing! I won’t buy store ranch anymore and I love that it’s healthy.
So glad I discovered your website today! It never ever occurred to me to make my own ranch dressing before. I love that you use almond milk and greek yogurt. This was so tasty and I will be making again and again! 🙂
This was so tasty! I will be making this on repeat!
