Reasons to love this recipe

  • Comforting yet light: Rich in flavor without feeling too heavy.
  • Easy to customize: Add your favorite sauce, veggies or toppings for extra flavor.
  • Quick to make: Simple ingredients that come together quickly for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients you’ll need

This white pizza recipe is as easy as it gets! With store-bought dough and simple toppings, it’s incredibly easy to make and absolutely delicious. My family couldn’t stop raving about it. Full measurements are listed in the recipe card below.

Pizza crust near small bowls of cheese, spinach, garlic and rosemary.
  • Olive oil & garlic: Spread over the pizza crust for extra flavor.
  • Pizza crust: The foundation of the pizza, offering a crispy texture and sturdy base for all the toppings. Use any favorite pizza dough recipe or store-bought. I like Boboli for this recipe.
  • Frozen chopped spinach: Adds a little extra texture and flavor. Make sure it’s well-drained to avoid excess moisture.
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese: The best melty cheese for pizza! You can also add ricotta for a creamy twist. Use pre-shredded mozzarella for convenience, or slice fresh rounds from a mozzarella log for a more gourmet touch.
  • Crumbled feta cheese: Adds tanginess and depth of flavor. I like to buy the variety with garlic and herbs.
  • Fresh rosemary: I love the flavor of fresh rosemary on pizza, but other herbs like basil work great too!
  • Grated parmesan cheese: A salty, nutty finish that elevates the overall flavor of the pizza.

Substitutions and variations

  • Cheese alternatives: Swap shredded mozzarella with fresh mozzarella, provolone or fontina for a creamier texture. Ricotta cheese can also be added or used in place of feta for a richer flavor.
  • Crust options: Use a homemade pizza dough, a cauliflower crust or naan bread for a unique twist.
  • Sauce: Feel free to add a white sauce like Alfredo sauce before adding the toppings. Not white, but you can even add marinara sauce, if you’d like!
  • Protein additions: Top with grilled chicken, sausage, crumbled bacon or shrimp for added protein.
  • Herb variations: Use thyme, oregano or fresh basil instead of rosemary for a different herbal note. For a little spice, sprinkle on some red pepper flakes!
  • Add veggies: Include sautéed mushrooms, roasted red peppers, artichokes, or caramelized onions for extra flavor and texture. Just be sure not to overdo it, as it will weigh down the pizza.
  • Gluten-free option: Use a gluten-free pizza crust to accommodate dietary needs.

Helpful tips

Here are some helpful tips when making white pizza:

  • Use well-drained spinach: If using frozen spinach, make sure it’s thawed and squeezed of excess water to prevent a soggy pizza.
  • Pre-bake crust: Depending on the crust you’re using, it may be a good idea to pre-bake it for 5-7 minutes before adding the toppings.
  • Bake on high heat: Cook the pizza at a high temperature (425-450°F) to achieve a crispy crust and perfectly melted cheese.
  • Use a pizza stone or steel: Baking on a preheated pizza stone or steel ensures a crispier crust.
  • Pair with a fresh salad: Serve your white pizza alongside a simple salad for a complete meal. This Italian salad is my favorite and a perfect pairing!

Frequently asked questions

What is white pizza?

White pizza, also known as “pizza bianca,” is made without a traditional tomato-based sauce. Instead, it often uses an olive oil or a creamy sauce and is topped with ingredients like garlic, spinach, cheese and herbs.

Can I use fresh spinach instead of frozen?

Yes! Fresh spinach works beautifully. Lightly sauté it beforehand to wilt and reduce moisture.

How do I keep the crust from getting soggy?

Ensure toppings like spinach are well-drained, and use just enough olive oil or sauce to coat the crust without soaking it. Pre-baking the crust also helps.

Storage recommendations

Who doesn’t get excited about finding leftover white pizza in the fridge? It’s even great cold, if that’s your thing! Here’s how to store leftovers properly:

  • In the refrigerator: Place any leftover pizza in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • To reheat: Warm it slowly in the microwave or pop it in the oven at 300°F until heated through.
Pizza slice with a bite taken out of it.
