Healthy Protein Waffle Recipe
This Healthy Protein Waffle Recipe is made with just three healthy ingredients and is crazy delicious. These cottage cheese protein waffles are low calorie, gluten free and super simple to make.
You guys know I love my protein waffles, but I’m super excited to share a new healthy protein waffle recipe that doesn’t call for protein powder! That’s right – these waffles contain cottage cheese and egg whites to give them almost 22 grams of protein. And, I know what you might be thinking… Cottage cheese in a waffle? Yes! These waffles came out so thick, fluffy and absolutely perfect. It’s really no different than using Greek yogurt, just as creamy and just as good. Not a cottage cheese fan? I promise, you can’t even taste it. You gotta trust me on this one!
This recipe requires just 10 minutes and 3 ingredients to make. Easy ingredients too! You can always add a little cinnamon and/or vanilla if you want.
And, while pretty much any waffle iron will do, I have to say I recently retired my old waffle iron and replaced it with a Belgian-style waffle maker. Friends. I’m in love. It creates perfect, fluffy, massive waffles with little effort.
The batter mixes up so easily in your blender or food processor. If you don’t have either of these, instead of using rolled oats, use oat flour.
HOW TO MAKE THIS HEALTHY PROTEIN WAFFLE RECIPE:
Not only is this healthy protein waffle recipe super delicious, it’s also one of the easiest recipes on the blog.
- Add the three simple ingredients to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. I love using a blender because it’s so easy to pour the batter straight onto the waffle iron.
- It’s SUPER important to spray your heated waffle iron with cooking spray like PAM or the coconut oil cooking spray from Trader Joe’s. These sprays are not completely natural and help keep the waffle from sticking. I’ve tried naturals sprays before and they never work quite as well.
- My waffle iron is an automatic one with no options to adjust the heat. If yours works differently, you’ll probably want to use the hottest setting and let your waffle cook for approximately 3-5 minutes. Sometimes I leave my waffle in the waffle iron for another minute after it beeps to give my waffle an extra crispiness.
While taking pictures of these yummy waffles, I had a little helper and I couldn’t resist a photo!
I hope you LOVE these waffles! They’re:
Crispy on the outside
Fluffy on the inside
Perfectly sweet
Undetectably gluten-free
Easy to make
& SO delicious
These are officially my new go-to waffle. They’ve received rave reviews from my kiddos (for good reason).
These waffles are delicious with just a little pancake syrup, but they’re irresistible with additional favorite toppings. I love Greek yogurt, chopped pecans and fresh fruit. So good!

Healthy Protein Waffle Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup old fashioned oats*
- 1/3 cup egg whites from a carton
- 1/3 cup low-fat cottage cheese
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until batter is smooth.
- Pour batter into a heated waffle iron that has been sprayed with cooking spray. I would not recommend using a natural cooking spray, as these waffles can easily stick. Cook until waffle is completely cooked. (my waffle automatically beeps when waffle is ready)
- Enjoy with your favorite toppings! I love Greek yogurt, pancake syrup, pecans and fresh fruit.

I cannot do dairy. Any other suggestions instead of Cottage cheese?
You could try a nondairy yogurt.
Could you substitute protein powder instead of oats to reduce the carbs?

Excellent recipe! Three ingredients only and healthy?!! High in protein! And fluffy all boxes are checked. This was amazing . Only comment is that they are not naturally sweet, one needs to add maple syrup(sugar free) once made ?
So glad you enjoyed! ?
These were so delicious I ate 9!!!! I made a double batch and using my Dash mini it made way more than expected. I added a little baking powder to the mix to make them super fluffy.
YUMMM!
Thanks so much for your feedback! So happy to hear you enjoyed!
These were yummy! Thanks!
I found that your recipe only made one waffle, though, so I doubled it to make 2.
Also a note – for me, 2 egg whites = 1/3 cup.
Then I used my egg yokes to make scrambled eggs…with more cottage cheese! 🙂
Hi there!
For an extra protein boost and flavour could I add in protein powder to this?
I have a chocolate brownie flavour that taste amazing in everything so I want to try turning it into waffles!
I think that would work just fine. If you find the batter too dry with the added powder, add a bit of water or egg whites to make it the right consistency.
These are yummy! I need to double or triple this recipe and freeze them!
So glad you enjoyed! 🙂
I put my waffle iron away 2 years ago. After making these, I think it’s going to stay out for the long haul. These are fabulous!!!
I am hosting my Bunco group this week for a “Breakfast for dinner” theme and these are definitely on the menu.
One question, have you tried this mix for pancakes? Just curious. I love the waffles, but wondered how it would fare as a pancake.
Thank you for sharing!!
Yay! I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed! Yes, this is basically the exact same recipe to make pancakes. https://www.kimscravings.com/flourless-pumpkin-protein-pancakes/
These waffles are AMAZING!! The consistency is the best recipient that I’ve found to be fluffy on the inside but crisp on the outside. I added the cinnamon and vanilla which gave it just the perfect amazing of sweetness. Thank you!
Oh I’m so happy that you love these as much as I do!!
Do you happen to know how many egg whites is equal to 1/3 cup? Thank you! Excited to try these!
2 large eggs = 1/4 cup egg whites, so it would be just a tad bit more. You could probably get away with using egg whites from 2 eggs and then adding a little bit more water to get the consistency right. good luck!
Can these be frozen?
They should work fine to freeze. I would just suggest setting them out to thaw and then cooking them in a toaster or oven rather than a microwave.
Love how easy these are! Perfect for weekend brunch and meal prepping for a quick and easy breakfast during the week!
Love your creative twist on protein waffles. They looks absolutely delicious for breakfast and I wouldn’t’ mind trying them. Now I just need to by a waffle maker:))
